"THIS YEAR IN REVIEW—2006"
We just flew back from Oklahoma
Wednesday morning, the 27th of December. Our flight from Oklahoma City as well
as our connecting flight in St. Louis, Mo., were both delayed, so by the time we
drove from Louisville, Ky., to our home and I crawled into bed, it was 2: 30
a.m. I had agreed to participate in the funeral the next morning for a lady
named Judy Cox, who died of cancer on December 23.
You probably don’t know Judy Cox. I received an email from her sister-in-law,
Margaret Mattingly, about Judy’s illness. Margaret subscribes to my “Daily
Quotes.” Margaret wanted me to pray for Judy. The result of that email was not
only that I was given the opportunity to pray for a soul in suffering, but I was
able to visit Judy the night before we left for Oklahoma (December 18).
As I stood by her bed, Judy and I visited about several things, but mainly we
talked about heaven and what it must be like. We talked about death and the
comfort we receive from a Lord who promised He would always, always be there. I
felt God’s presence then and there. And then we prayed. And Judy Cox rested well
that night, better than she had in weeks, I was later told.
As I drove home from her funeral I realized once again how this internet
ministry is a blessing to me. It leads me to more people whose lives it is my
privilege to touch. That’s my blessing.
This ministry has taken me to Ireland, Australia, Japan, California, New York,
and Florida, just to mention a few. No, I haven’t been there in person, but the
quotes and daily radio program, “Success in a Minute,” have. I’ve heard from
many of you, through prayer requests and responses to quotes. Some of you listen
daily to the radio program. And my students at Campbellsville University, where
it is my privilege to teach, subscribe and listen. (Some do it just because they
want to and not in hopes of a better grade!”) And, my friends at the church I
pastor enjoy the quotes and listen to the audio program when they miss it on
WLSK FM in the morning.
This next year I fully expect this ministry to double in scope and span. I have
a desire to reach more with the Good News of a loving Savior. I welcome your
suggestions about how I can do a better job in that.
As I stood to pray for Judy Cox, I thanked the Lord for the privilege of
standing with His saints in a moment of need. And I thank the Lord for those who
support this ministry and make a moment like that a possibility. May God
increase and bless what He has started.
With kindest regards,
David B. Whitlock, Ph.D.
